Sparrow - Ubiquity of the past

I usually go to terrace of my house to spend the evening. Last time when I went so, a sparrow came and sat next to me. The first thing I felt was “WOW!!! A Sparrow!!!” I saw it chirping, jumping here and there, ate some grains and then flew away. I watched it as it flew, like a small bullet fired in the sky. It was a long time I had ever seen it in my neighborhood.

But wait a minute…. I was observing the sparrow as if I am seeing a new creature that has never been explored before. It’s just a SPARROW anyway. This was because that the number of sparrows in our neighborhood is almost to zero and no one cares to witness it. I still remember my childhood days when the sparrows collected the straws to make nests in the rooftops of my house and within days I use to hear small chirps from the nest. People use to consider it to be a nuisance because of its chirping and shitting habits inside the houses. However, it no more remains to be a nuisance and it no more stays in our places anyway.

I just inserted the above pic to show what a sparrow looks like to the new generation. This is the state we are in, where today’s kids don’t even know what sparrows are. I remember elders saying me long back “you have to protect the nature and wildlife else in future you will get to see them only at the museums” I feel, it is the current world that was the future they spoke about, that is, today is the future of the past.

Not in particular to the sparrow, but to every creature on earth. Grow up folks, do something. This was just a sign of extinction and DODO, a bird, is a living example for being extinct and no wonder if sparrow joins with it. No single man can stop that from happening but thinking “Let me be the first to start with” will do serve the purpose. Hope no other creature is added to the list after DODO.
